on emcrit, had interesting article about treating and converting afib w/ magnesium infusion. Essentially 2 gram loading dose then 2 grams over next 4 minutes. not a whole lot of trials, but apparently converted 16/29 patient, the 13 that didn't convert went on to receive amio infusion. in those that didn't convert, rate control was still achieved, roughly decreased by 19 beats per minute. in sepsis, magnesium is often depleted, an essential electrolyte so certainly magnesium infusion shouldn't hurt anyone.
obviously this doesn't directly relate to your current article, but nice little food for thought.
